How does demockeracy work? Print E-mail
We like to think of ourselves as "The Onion" of the people, by the people. We are a premiere satire destination where ALL content is provided and decided upon by our readers via weekly writing contests.

Want to participate? Here's how.

Submit and Vote - You can submit and vote in 5 categories

  1. Weekly Essay Contest - Our premier $50 weekly themed essay contest.
  2. Weekly Essay Contest Topic - Submit and vote on topics that will become the theme for the Weekly Essay Contest – winner gets $15.
  3. Weekly Essay Contest Picture - Submit and vote on a picture that will accompany our Weekly Essay Contest
  4. Featured Original Submission - A farce article or op-ed piece on anything under the sun
  5. News in Briefs - Short farce articles, where the title should be just as entertaining as the piece itself

At this point, we unfortunately only pay winners of the above contests #'s 1&2.

The timing of our writing contests is a bit tricky, but only because it is different from all else out there. We publish the site every Tuesday, and our submission and voting cycles therefore run from Tuesday to the following Monday.

So, if you were interested in submitting, here is how it works:
From Tuesday each week to the following Monday, submissions are gathered. They are then voted on the following week, and results are published the week after that. Example from a hypothetical calendar:
  1. You submit on Wednesday the 11th
  2. Voting begins on Tuesday the 17th
  3. Results are posted on Tuesday the 24th
